Automobiles in German Town Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report early analysis suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
